Chipping Sodbury Golf Club
www.chippingsodburygolfclub.co.uk

12 miles North East of Bristol (South West England), the course is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty at the foot of the Cotswold hills and adjacent to the historic, characterful 17th century market town of Chipping Sodbury.

Throughout its long and somewhat chequered History, the Club has been twice re-formed and used four different courses on land at The Ridings and Sodbury Common. With two World Wars intervening, Club activities were severely restricted, if not curtailed completely. The 9-hole course in use prior to the 1914-18 War on the Stub Riding was closed on the outbreak of hostilities and the 9-holer of the 1930s was ploughed up and became wheat and potato fields when The Ridings were requisitioned during the 1939-45 War. The post-war Club revival saw the abandonment of the Stub Riding as a golf course in favour of a new one laid out on the Common and it was not until 1971 that members at Chipping Sodbury had the facilities of an 18-hole course for the first time in the Club's history with the opening of the new course on the Mead Riding. 1976 saw the addition of a substantial clubhouse and the 1990's the addition of voluminous lakes and mounds.

Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club

Chipping Sodbury is a large cricket club and is one of the oldest and most established in the Bristol area having been around since 1860. In 2010 the club celebrated its 150th anniversary and looks forward to many more successful years providing cricket to those in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

The cricket club runs 5 senior league sides on Saturdays and 2 senior league sides on Sundays, with good youth integration.

The 1st XI and 2nd XI play in the Bristol and North Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League, part of the ECB's nationwide network of Premier Leagues.

The youth setup which has developed greatly in the last 10 years was set up in the 1980s and now contains 3 x Under 9 sides, 2 x Under 11, 2 x Under 13, 2 x Under 15 and 1 x Under 17 side. Chipping Sodbury CC play in the Bristol Youth Cricket League.

The Bristol Youth Cricket League has supported and developed Bristol cricket for many years and Chipping Sodbury is proud to be a part of it.

There is also a youth cricket academy at Chipping Sodbury which focuses more advanced coaching for the club’s more talented young players.

Within the last few years the club has also established a women’s team, which has generated a fresh air of young women who have helped to develop Bristol cricket for many women and girls.

In recent years Chipping Sodbury's womens side merged with those of Thornbury Cricket Club (based in Gloucestershire) and Shirehampton (based in Bristol) to form a new team called Bristol Pheonix.

Nestled between Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Bristol and Somerset the cricket club is situated next to the town of Yate and is within easy reach of the M4 and M5 motorways. The cricket club is ideally positioned to welcome players and opponents from the Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Bristol and Somerset areas.

Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club has proven very popular with an influx of new cricketers in recent times. The main contact in the club is Clive Reynolds, Club Secretary, you can call him on 01454 314147.

Jack Russell Gallery

www.jackrussell.co.uk
The Jack Russell Gallery is situated at 41 High Street. The building dates back to 1560 and was known as the Bell Inn until 1994 when it was purchased by Jack Russell who, after considerable refurbishment, changed its use to an art gallery.

The gallery houses the Jack Russell art collection, unique in its dedication to the work of one artist. With its high ceiling and flagstone floor creating an ambience rarely found in today's modern buildings, the visitor can browse through at leisure, the original paintings, prints and memorabilia from Jack's world tours both as an international cricketer and artist.
